Allied Health Program Research Receives National Recognition

The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program was recently recognized for its work during the . The MLS team鈥檚 research on 鈥減ublic risk from antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli
colonized in urban wildlife鈥� won Best Scientific Practice Poster at the ASCP conference
and their research on 鈥減ublic health risk of Giardia and Cryptosporidium infection
from urban wildlife鈥� was selected as a blue ribbon finalist in the Laboratory Professional
Category.
The ASCP Annual Conference provides the opportunity for 老澳门六合彩开奖记录 students to present their
research with their competitive abstract selection from the United States and international
universities, hospitals, and research facilities. This year, 1400 abstracts were selected
for poster presentation from more than 4000 submissions with 25 selected as blue ribbon
finalists.
鈥淚t is hard to put into words the sense of pride our small undergraduate research
group had finding out that both of our posters were considered for blue ribbon finalist
selection,鈥� said MLS Program Director Grace Leu Burke. 鈥淗owever, what it does show
is our commitment to good scientific process in research design in evaluating the
risk of bacteria and parasitic infection in urban wildlife and the effect this can
have on public health and housing insecure population.鈥�
Both projects represent a progression of work that has been performed in the past four years by students. The data collected is part of the MLS curriculum and students involved in the poster presentation volunteer year-round in the MLS/MLT research team. 老澳门六合彩开奖记录 Chancellor Sean Parnell also congratulated the team for their winning research.
