ConocoPhillips donation kick-starts the Student Field Experiences Fund
ConocoPhillips recently made a $40,000 donation to the department to help start a long-term initiative to strengthen undergraduate geoscience education at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ through a new fund to assist students with the costs of attending field trips associated with their geology courses. The new fund is called the Field Experiences Fund and will be used to subsidize geology course laboratory fees that are used to cover the logistical costs of field experiences in the geological sciences curriculum. Our intent is to subsidize field costs by about 50% in order to make classic field areas and type localities in the Lower 48 states accessible to all ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ geology students but which would ordinarily be cost-prohibitive to visit. As a result, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ students will be provided with opportunities for impactful learning experiences in multiple field locations. Our sincere thanks to ConocoPhillips for their ongoing investment in geoscience education at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼.
In order to ensure a long-term investment in field experiences for our students, the Field Experiences Fund will only survive and thrive with help from other donors who are also motivated to invest in our students’ success through an ongoing fundraising campaign. Please help continue this fund and provide our students with the most rigorous and educationally beneficial field-based instruction that ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ can offer. All donors will be acknowledged on a ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Geology Field Experiences website, including testimonials from our students about the field experiences that were made possible through this fund. Thank you for any contributions you are able to make.
