A message from Chancellor Sandeen

Dear ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Community,

I write to you today with mixed emotions. A few minutes ago the Trustees of the California State University System appointed me the of .

While I am sad to leave this wonderful university and my friends and colleagues, I am excited to take on a new challenge at another public, open-access, urban-metropolitan university very similar to the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ — one that is just miles from where I grew up and close to my family.

We have accomplished much together, and I am proud of how we withstood so many challenges — from earthquakes and financial exigency to program reviews and now a global pandemic. ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ is a stronger and more stable university based on the ingenuity and collaboration of all members of our community.

In the coming weeks, Interim President Pat Pitney will name an interim chancellor for ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. I will work closely with her and ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ cabinet members to ensure a smooth transition. My last official day at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ will be Jan. 3, 2021.

My priority moving forward is to keep you informed as we navigate this transition and close out this unique semester. In the meantime, we will proceed with finalizing our strategic plan, our budget plan for fiscal year 2021-22 and the work of our change and leadership group on academic alignment.

I will always look back on my time as part of the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ family with fondness and pride. I have learned so much from the faculty, staff and administrators at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼, and I remain in awe of our amazing students. Our work together has been filled with joy, and I am so proud of what we have accomplished together. I’ll always consider myself a proud member of Seawolf Nation.

With very best regards,
Cathy Sandeen
