Program faculty and current trainees will be available to answer questions about the program and the application. Interested students are invited to work on the application during these sessions so questions can be answered as they arise. Bring your laptop!
Spring 2024 applications are due February 16, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
Biomed U-RISE: Undergraduate Research-training Initiative for Student Enhancement
Funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Biomed U-RISE is an exciting new program at 老澳门六合彩开奖记录 that offers students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, or Natural Sciences a biomedical research-training experience from their summer as a rising junior to their senior academic year. Benefits to students include financial assistance and multiple forms of mentorship.
- Program Goals
- To increase the diversity of ideas in biomedical/health research
- To increase the diversity of the biomedical research workforce
- To develop a diverse pool of undergraduates who:
- complete their baccalaureate degrees
- transition into biomedical, research-focused higher degree programs (e.g. Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.)
- Eligibility
Eligible students:
- Major in Biology, Chemistry, or Natural Sciences
- Have a GPA to date of 3.0 or better
- Have completed URS A121 Methods of Inquiry and URS A188 Foundations of Research & Scholarship
- Are available to travel out of state for the summer between junior and senior years
- Are committed to full-time study for the next two years
- Are on track to graduate two years after program enrollment
- Are US citizens or permanent residents
- Program Benefits
- Financial assistance: Receive a monthly stipend and partial tuition remission
- Research mentorship: Work in a faculty member's lab under the direct mentorship of that faculty member as well as graduate students
- Career mentorship: Work with program faculty to discern academic and professional goals, as well as assistance navigating the university
- Peer mentorship: Engage with a cohort of fellow trainees also excited about biomedical research
Applications & Admissions
Biomed U-RISE uses a competitive admissions process to select a cohort of four students each year. Applications are due the spring semester immediately before the summer start date. Applications will be available from December 15 - February 15.
