Earthquake ’64 is a multidisciplinary performance that carefully weaves together the personal stories, local experiences and science behind the 1964 earthquake. Using spoken dialogue, movement and original songs, this production examines the ripple effect this event had on Alaska and the world – changes to people, communities, cultures and scientific understanding. Join us for this uniquely personal look into the earthquake that shaped the great state we live in.

Performance run time: 2 hours with a 10-minute intermission

    Jake Beauvais (Greg and others) is a theatre major with a performance emphasis here at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. He has been in department productions such as Eurydice as Orpheus, Stalking the Bogeyman as the swing for both David and The Bogeyman, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile as The Visitor. He has also appeared in Anchorage Community Theatre’s production of Bus Stop as Bo Decker. He was last seen in ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼’s production of Radium Girls as United States Radium Corporation president, Arthur Roeder. Jake is also a founding member of ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼’s resident improv troupe, The Ad-lib Alchemists.

    Angela Colavecchio  (Eileen) is a third-year theatre major at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. When Angela isn’t performing she is working as a nanny and a secretary. She has done six shows at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼, including Radium Girls (Irene Rudolph), Working (Terry Mason), And Then There Were None (Dr. Armstrong), Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Germaine) and Eurydice (Loud Stone). Angela’s claim to fame is that she has eaten an entire pint of Ben and Jerry’s in one sitting without actually being sad. When Angela grows up, she wants to open a children’s theatre or be a princess, either one would be fine.

    Devan Hawkins (Genie Chance, Joan, and others) is a ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ student seeking her bachelor’s degree in social work. She has been seen at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ as Countess in Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and as Mrs. Rogers in And Then There Were None and elsewhere as Beline in The Imaginary Invalid. Originally from Nebraska, Devan has an extensive background from her high school days as a state champion in dramatic interpretation. She is an avid musical buff and loves to sing and dance (despite lacking the ability to do either). Devan wishes to thank her mom, Katie, for loving and supporting her and allowing her to chase her dream.

    Taran Haynes (Russ, Joe Pyne, and others) is a theatre major at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ and an aspiring performer, director, and playwright. He has been on the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ stage in Radium Girls (Tom Kreider, Reporter), Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Albert Einstein), Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None (Phillip Lombard), Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer) and Spam-a-lot (Not-Dead-Fred). He also served as production dramaturg for Stalking the Bogeyman and assistant director in 44 Plays for 44 Presidents. Writing a Play, Taran’s first one-act, was accepted to the Play Lab of the 2017 Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, AK, and his 10-minute play, The Hardest Thing, was accepted to the Playwriting Symposium of the 2017 Mid America Theatre Conference in Houston, TX, which subsequently earned him a ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Discovery Grant.

    Bao Her (Sue, Pam, and others) is a second-year theatre major at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. She was previously seen in ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Dance in Performance 2017. She’s a mentor for freshman students in Student Support Services, and in her spare time she likes to choreograph dances, write plays, and film short videos. Her career aspirations are to be a well-known Asian-American actor.

    Alexandra McCall (Carin, Tracy, and others) is a theatre student at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. She has recently appeared on the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ stage in such productions as Radium Girls (Grace Fryer), Twelfth Night (Viola), 44 Plays for 44 Presidents (Presidents Taft and Eisenhower), Marie Antoinette (Lamballe), Working (Sharon Atkins, ensemble), and Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Suzanne). Alexandra toured with ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼’s Theatre for Young Audiences with the production of A Bully There Be (Wench) and has also appeared in the student-directed scene Let the Right One In (Eli).

    Kaeli Meno (Anna, Blanche Clarke, and others) is in her third year at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ as a history and theater dual major. Although her emphasis is in technical theater she has performed in Radium Girls (Mrs. Anna Fryer), The Flick (Rose) and in the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ original The Confession (Amelia).  Kaeli is also involved on campus as the president of Wolfpack Theater Club, a member of the debate team and employed as a resident advisor. She is excited about this opportunity and the upcoming season!

    Andrew Miller (Jack Hoff) is a junior theatre major with a performance emphasis here at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. Earthquake ‘64 is his first time on stage in a full production, and he is very excited to make his debut.  

    Petra Murray (Diane and others) is a senior theatre major at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. Although this is her first time in a theatre production, it isn’t her first time on stage. Her most recent stage venture was ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼’s Dance in Performance 2017. In her free time, she enjoys singing, dancing, and watching movies with her favorite people.

    Becca Padrick (Benny, Composer) is a third-year theatre performance major at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼, and she has had the opportunity to work on many productions, both backstage and onstage. She’s also intent on learning more about makeup design, as it combines her passion for art and theatre. Some of her favorite plays she has been in include Working, Much Ado About Nothing, and the Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged). If you ask her to tell a joke, she will always come up with one for you on the spot. What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

    Paitton Reid (June and others) is in her second year at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. When she is not acting, she is either working on a show or trying to fit in sleep. She has been a crew member in various ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ productions including And Then There Were None (wardrobe) and Picasso in the Lapin Agile (Assistant Stage Manager). Her first role with the theatre department was Sob Sister in Radium Girls. She is happy to be on the stage and a part of this devising process.

    Joshuah Rutten (Michael, George, and others) is a senior theatre student at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. He previously appeared in Picasso at the Lapin Agile as Schmendiman. Joshuah always loved game shows as a child and has always wanted to host The Price Is Right. Outside of the department Joshuah dedicates his time to his job in the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Housing department and in the community as a Pokémon Professor/Judge. After college Joshuah plans to move back to his birth city of San Antonio, Texas, where he will continue working in theatre and work towards his acting goals.

    Dr. Brian Cook (director) is assistant professor of theatre at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. He received his PhD in Theatre Arts from the University of Oregon, and his MA from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and King’s College, London. At ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼, he’s directed several shows, including And Then There Were None and Stalking the Bogeyman, and he appeared on stage in Picasso at the Lapin Agile. His research focuses on contemporary British theatre, particularly on the work of the Cherub Company in the United Kingdom and abroad.  Brian has presented at various conferences and has published in Theatre History Studies, Theatre Survey, Performing Arts Resources and the LMDA Sourcebook. He previously ran the untitled Theatre Company which toured a short play dealing with interpersonal violence to schools and volunteer organizations, and he has worked at professional theatres in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, Florida, and the U.K..

    Daniel J. Anteau received a B.A. from the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ and his M.F.A. in Lighting Design from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. In his academic career he has taught for the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ as term technical director/lighting designer and The University of Hawaii as Assistant professor in Lighting Design and Technical Director. After returning to the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ He now serves as Professor in design and Production Manager. Daniel is also the academic advisor for the design and technical students, manages the light shop as well as sound, projections, and special effects. Professionally, Daniel’s Lighting Designs have been seen across Alaska & Hawaii, to New York City, and internationally to Africa. In Hawaii, Daniel continues to stay active as Lighting Designer working with Manoa Valley Theatre on their summer production.

    Daniel Glen Carlgren is currently the faculty scenic designer, projection designer, and technical director at the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. He received his BFA from Southern Oregon University in 2001 and his MFA from University of Oregon in 2012. Daniel’s recent credits include scenic and projection design, and technical direction for 44 Plays for 44 Presidents, Night of the Iguana, SPAMalot, Twelfth Night, and many others. Daniel has also worked on the automation for Julie Taymor’s Grendal and Wagner’s Ring Cycle for the Los Angeles Opera and Disney’s Aladdin at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, Washington. Daniel has worked as a scenery, staging and rigging specialist in the entertainment industry for many years.

    Colleen Alexis Metzger  is a costume designer and technician whose work has taken her across the country. She has worked for the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico, the Glimmerglass Opera in New York, The Barter Theatre in Virginia, Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, Chautauqua Opera in New York, Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Portland Stage Company in Maine, and most recently, Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts.

    Shelley Virginia (Assistant Director and Movement Director) is an Anchorage-based actor, teacher, and movement director. She is thrilled to have

    Addoris Davis (Stage Manager) is currently a senior technical theatre major, focusing on stage management and design at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼. Addoris’s recent credits include stage management for ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼’s production of Working: The Musical, William Shakespeare’s Land of the Dead and 44 Plays for 44 Presidents; and Cyrano’s Theatre Company’s Rapture, Blister, Burn. She enjoys being on stage as well. Her ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ performances include Marie Antoinette (Sheep), Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (Maria), and Radium Girls (Dr. Marie Curie/Mrs. Roeder). She is also a part of ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼’s improv troupe, the Ad-Lib Alchemists.
