Administrative Records Management
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District
Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) are scattered across Alaska and the Pacific Air Forces major command. Like FUDS everywhere, these locations are now under the purview of the Army Corps of Engineers. Clean-up varies by location. Some FUDS projects require removing munitions and crumbling buildings. Others involve extracting piles of contaminated soils. Each project requires plenty of communication and coordination, and all records are required to be kept for 50 years. That means a lot of documentation. AERC is scanning 16 pallets and nearly 500 boxes of materials into the Air Force Civil Engineer Center鈥檚 administrative records system, a public searchable database of military records. The project improves coordination across departments and facilitates access to information that continues to affect Alaska and the Pacific today.
